HYPE Walk Run Cycle Play – Postponed until 2021 Due to Covid-19

What exactly is going on here?

HYPE started a Social Action project in July 2019 under our ‘Vibrant Parks’ project by enhancing a green space in Demesne Street Park, Seacombe and running small scale community events.

Whilst working in the park we saw the need for something regular, people can attend to improve their personal health and fitness and to bring people, businesses and communities together by utilising our wonderful promenade we sometimes take for granted.

This project supports a local charity each month and in June 2020 will host its first Awards Evening to showcase the progress people involved have made within 6 months.

Here are the charities we are supporting in the first 6 months

January The Open Door Centre
February Guide Dogs for the Blind
March Age UK Wirral
April A nominated Wirral Community Group
May Maggies
June LCR Pride

FREE activities and a FREE drink

HYPE will coordinate the Walk, Run, Cycle and Play project every Sunday at 10.00am along the UK’s longest promenade from Seacombe – New Brighton.

The activity is FREE and we would like to see people of all ages participating in the project, HYPE will also be providing FREE tea and coffee and soft drinks for all participants.

Members of the HYPE team will be based at the checkpoints throughout the morning which are:

  • Seacombe Ferry
  • Wallasey Town Hall
  • Vale Park
  • Victoria Road, New Brighton

Start your walk, run or cycle from any of these points and pick up your wristband for your free drink.

Activities

Walking

  • A brisk 10-minute walk has lots of health benefits.
  • You can tell you’re walking briskly if you can still talk but cannot sing the words to a song.
  • The easiest way to walk more is to make walking a habit.
  • Walking in a group is a great way to start walking, make new friends and stay motivated.
  • We encourage dog owners to bring your dog along.

Cycling

  • Cycling is a good muscle workout – cycling uses all of the major muscle groups as you pedal.
  • Low impact – it causes less strain and injuries than most other forms of exercise.
  • Good for strength and stamina – cycling increases stamina, strength and aerobic fitness.
  • Mental health conditions such as depression, stress and anxiety can be reduced by regular bike riding.

Running

  • Running can significantly improve physical and mental health.
  • As a form of aerobic exercise, running can reduce stress, improve heart health, and even help alleviate symptoms of depression.
  • Some researchers think running may be so good for us because it’s something we evolved to do.
  • People are built to run!

Playing

  • Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive and emotional strength.
  • Play is important to healthy brain development.
  • It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them.

What to wear: Please ensure you wear comfortable footwear and appropriate clothing for all activities. Please wear safety helmet for cycling.
