This January, HYPE hit the ground running!
After a relaxing Christmas break, staff returned ready to take on a range of new projects. On the 9th of January, we had 12 participants join our ‘HYPE Recruit’ training course, which aims to empower local young people to step back into employment. The course focuses on developing practical skills in bike mechanics, youth work and landscape gardening.
We are now in week 4 of the course! All participants have completed community volunteer work, and had the opportunity to complete Safeguarding training. Two course participants have already secured part-time paid work… one as a sessional youth worker with HYPE! This month has seen us welcome 5 new sessional staff into our team: Lauren, Louise, Adam, Paul and Matty. They have got off to a great start both in Courtney Road and The Little T Room.
January also saw our Little T Room youth club re-open down on Grange Road West. HYPE’s new youth workers have been busy planning fun sessions and activities for the local young people that attend the club on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Last week we made our very own slime!!
On the 27th and 28th of January, HYPE ran our first ‘Park Active’ event in our ‘Park Inner Park.’ We hosted a full weekend of free, family friendly events including a soccer school, the GROW project, a HYPE Park Adventurers session and a community dog show. Despite a bit of rain, the event was a success with lots of local families engaging with HYPE for the first time!
We are now getting ready for our next monthly ‘Park Active’ which will be happening on the 24th and 25th of February! Photos to follow…
