Following the success of our #BikesforNHS initiative HYPE teamed up with Magenta Living and Wirral Borough Council to run similar schemes to reach more key workers in our community where our bikes were loaned to people in the community who are front line workers for three months.
Magenta Living, the largest provider of affordable housing in Wirral, provided 60 residents with a bike from HYPE Merseyside and access to our free weekly Dr Bike workshops for bike health checks and fix any minor repairs during the three-month loan.
Brian Simpson, Chief Executive of Magenta Living, “I am thrilled that Magenta Living is supporting this scheme from our Community Fund, set up to help local organisations, such as HYPE, during the current COVID-19 crisis. This initiative has been a great success and we are pleased to support our tenants who are key workers through this scheme and recognise the fantastic work they do on the front line.”
The scheme allowed residents to use the bike as a safe way to commute to work during the pandemic and also keep residents fit and healthy during lock down.
Nicole, NHS Track and Trace, said: “The bike has helped my mental state massively during lockdown.” – Nicole’s longest ride was 35 miles. Nicole has also now decided to keep the bike after the loan period ended to carry on her cycling journey.
Natalie, Forum Housing, said “It helped a lot over the first lockdown riding to work in the nice weather some days and going on family bike rides on my days off. And now it would be really useful again pending the next lockdown, for getting out with family on their bikes too.”
