December 2017- Bikes, Bikes, Bikes and Employability

Whilst everyone else is now on the wind-down to Christmas.. HYPE is gearing up for the New Year!

The month of December marks the end of a successful first venture with The HIVE Wirral Youth Zone- ‘HYPE Bike Maintenance.’ This was an activity session offered to senior members of The HIVE who wanted to learn more about cycle maintenance. Our first session was run by Ed and Matt, and had 17 young people attend!

The course ran for a total of 5 weeks with an average of 9 young people attend for the two hour sessions. Ed hosted beginners, intermediate, and advanced skill level sessions, and young people left with the know-how of how to repair punctures, adjust chains, and even how to perform a full bike strip-down!

Over the past weeks, HYPE staff have been recruiting and getting ready for our January Training and Employability programme!

The course will kick-off on January the 9th, and welcome a group of local young people to the HYPE staff team. The course will run for 8 weeks, 3 days a week (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday) from our office location- The Lauries Centre, Birkenhead.

This team of volunteers will get their hands dirty with a range of HYPE-led community projects and social action. Assisting with our youth clubs, helping to run our bike maintenance workshops, and helping redesign local ‘green-spaces’ are just some of the projects course participants will work on. On top of all this, HYPE will run employability sessions such as CV workshops and career planning….

If you know anyone aged 16-24 who isn’t in full-time education or employment who would benefit from this, please get in touch! We are still accepting applications!
